Roeder Consulting – Design Thinking Project
Since their inception in 2001, Roeder Consulting Inc. (RCI) has driven positive change for organizations by helping them prioritize and manage strategic projects. RCI provides full-service strategic change management and project management consulting and training. Situation and Opportunity:
Given the changes in the competitive landscape for project management related consulting and training, how should RCI evolve its business model to effectively compete and provide superior value to its customers? How can RCI offer its clients a consulting experience that even better targets their needs? How has past success at RCI provided a springboard for future growth?
To help answer these questions and more, RCI partnered with Ten09 Consulting to execute a 12-week “design thinking” based project. The team started with planning the project and drafting a design brief. Next the team conducted numerous ethnographic interviews with buyers of consulting services and project managers, and also performed detailed secondary research. A mind map was then developed which detailed key customer insights and design criteria were establish. The team then embarked on structured brainstorming and concept development. Finally, the team began the process of prototyping new offerings and strategic partnerships, and testing them in the market. The team expects the prototyping and testing phases to extend over the next 12-18 months as feedback from the market is obtained, learnings are absorbed and offerings are updated and refined.
